OVERVIEW
This is an illustrative depictions of the everyday bus transits encounters in Lagos, Nigeria.
Moving from Warri, the southern region of Nigeria to Lagos in 20219, the digital installation “people of Eko” is a ten piece depiction of the the regular bus of Lagos, by people of Eko I mean the true hustlers mostly found in the mainland parts of Lagos.
PROJECT SCOPE
A fresh and immersive perspective is brought to the project by utilizing 3D art, with an emphasis on the city's vibrancy and the people's resilience, as the daily lives of Lagosians are depicted, from their morning wake-up routines to their crowded bus commutes, elevating the storytelling to new heights.
CREATIVE PROCESS
A labor of love involving multiple steps was undertaken, encompassing phases such as conceptualization, 3D illustration, color palette selection, and cultural authenticity enrichment to authentically portray Lagos residents' daily lives.
Agberos are informal transport workers or street touts in Nigeria, particularly in cities like Lagos
Lagos road safety officials heavily present in the roads all day control road traffic and apprehending road safety offenders.
With eyes shut to their not-so-palatable standard of living they wake up every morning and in their numbers head out the big offices on the island and the markets, to make their daily living popularly tagged “ the daily 2k”.
CONCLUSION
The power of visual storytelling and art's ability to convey a bustling city's essence and its people is demonstrated by "People of Eko." Through 3D illustrations, the daily experiences of Lagosians are brought to life, offering a fresh perspective on the city's character and its residents' resilience. It's a celebration of the human spirit, Lagos' vibrancy, and its people's enduring determination as they pursue their dreams amidst the city's bustling chaos.
